Google is set to launch its next version of the mobile operating system, Android 13, towards the end of this year. It is expected that the company may introduce several new features in the upcoming Android update. As of now, work is being done on the upcoming OS. Google has already released two developer previews for Android 13.
Google has also introduced Android 12L, which was an update to Android 12. With 12L, Google has optimized the home screen, lock screen, notification shade, device set-up screen, settings, and display for larger screens. Android 12L has been rolled out as a March Feature Drop for Pixel phones. The March Feature Drop includes many features such as live caption on calls, night mode in Snapchat, text stickers, and new widgets.
As for Android 13, let's see what new features can be expected.
Multiple Enabled Profiles
Recently, a feature called Multiple Enabled Profiles (MEP) was seen in the latest code of the new operating system. This service will be provided in Android 13, which will allow users to keep dual SIMs on a device with a single eSIM chip. So far, most smartphones have one or more physical SIM slots or one eSIM and a physical SIM slot. Once this update is installed on phones with physical SIM card slots, this service will allow users to enable three SIMs on their phones. In addition to Android devices, this feature may also be supported for iOS, Windows, and MacOS devices.
Theme'd App Icons
Android 13 also brings new services and tools for developer productivity. This includes the Quick Settings Placement API. In addition, users can opt-in for theme'd app icons. Supported Android launchers offer users the ability to inherit the color of their chosen wallpaper and other theme elements for their icons.
Nearby WiFi Devices" Runtime Permission for Wi-Fi Access
Android 13 will introduce the "NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES" runtime permission for apps that manage device connections from Wi-Fi access points nearby. It should be noted that this new permission will be essential for apps that make calls to the Wi-Fi API. Furthermore, this feature enables apps to discover and connect to devices nearby via Wi-Fi without requiring location permission.
Pre-app Language Preference
With the help of this feature, you can assign different language settings to individual apps, so that you can move freely between the different languages on your device like in the real life.
New Media Control
This feature will make your media player more attractive which has never looked so good. The media player puts the album artwork on full screen with a dancing playback bar.
Notification Control
Android 13 will give you full control over the notifications as you will able to control which app can send you notifications which in turn helps you to limit distractions.
Proactive Protection
Android 13 has privacy built in to help you protect your personal data. It can protect the information on your clipboard, you’ll get an alert when an app accesses it, and your clipboard history will be cleared after a period of time to prevent unwanted access.
