What is IMEI Number?

IMEI number is a 15 digit unique code that acts like an ID card for your device. It is given to your device when it is manufactured and it stays the same forever which means it can't be changed. It should be noted no two devices have the same IMEI number, it is different for all devices.

Structure of IMEI Number

Before we discuss how IMEI is used let's know how it is structured.
The IMEI number is structured in the format of  AA-BBBBBB-CCCCCC-D where:
  1. Where the first six digits represent the model and maker's of the device.
  2. Digits from seven to eight tell us where the device is made.
  3. Digits from nine to fourteen helps us to identify your specific among all phones made by the same company.
  4. The last 15th digit is like a special code that makes sure that the IMEI number is correct, it is also known as the check digit.

For IOS Devices: IOS users can follow the below steps to check IMEI number:

  2. Tap on the about phone section.
  3. Scroll down and you will find the IMEI number option.
  4. You can also quickly check the IMEI number on IOS by dialing "*#06#"
For Feature Phones: Here are the steps to find the IMEI number of feature phones:
  1. Open the dial pad of your phone
  2. Dial *#06# and you will find the IMEI number of your devices.
